Leheriya comes from the Hindi word lahar, wave: it is a traditional Rajasthani technique in which the fabric is rolled diagonally, tied at regular intervals and dipped in dye. Where the ties are tight the color cannot reach, and when they are undone the wave stripes appear; for every extra color the fabric is tied and dyed again, with azo free dyes. Silk chiffon is very light and sheer: knot it at the neck, wear it over the shoulders on a summer dress or tie it to your bag.
