Scarf in 100% wool, hand screen printed: ikat-style scrolls and palmettes in purple, orange, red, black, lime green and yellow on a natural beige ground. Size 70 x 180 cm (28 x 71 in).

The design is inspired by ikat, the textiles of Central Asia and India known for their deliberately blurred outlines. Here that effect comes from hand screen printing: each color has its own screen, which the artisan lays on the fabric and fills with color using a squeegee, one pass after another, waiting for it to dry. With six colors, that means six separate passes for every section of the scarf. The beige ground keeps such a rich pattern cheerful yet easy to wear: it looks great with a black, gray or navy coat.
