A scarf as a gift: how to choose the right one for her
Condividi
There is a gift that never asks for a size, has no fear of age and never ends up at the back of a drawer: a scarf. To choose it well, in short, four questions are enough. Which colors does she already wear? How does she live winter, in real cold or in the city? Does she love to wrap herself up, or does she prefer something light at the neck? And how much do you want to spend? Look at her coat and the colors in her wardrobe, choose wool for the cold, wool and silk for skin that loves softness, silk for light on the face, and go for a generous size that can be worn at the neck and over the shoulders. Further down you will find concrete ideas for every budget, from 40 to 200 euros.
Every year, as the holidays approach, you write to us with the same question: "I want to give a scarf, but which one?". This little guide was born from that.
🎁 Why is a scarf the safest gift?
Because it has no size. You don't have to guess a measurement or secretly ask a friend. It looks lovely at twenty as at seventy, it is worn every day for months and, if it is well made, it lasts for years.
And a handmade scarf carries a story with it: the hands that printed, wove or dyed it, the color that comes from far away. It is a gift that is opened twice, first when it is unwrapped, then when she discovers how it was born.
🎨 How do you find out which colors she loves?
The secret is to look before you buy. Notice three things: the coat she wears most often, the bag she never leaves behind and the color that keeps coming back in her wardrobe.
- If she wears black, gray or navy, she probably loves a vivid color that lights everything up: fuchsia, red, turquoise.
- If she wears camel and warm tones, look for indigo, sage green, midnight blue.
- If she loves color without fear, be bold with full patterns, paisleys, large flowers.
- If you are not sure, choose a design that combines a neutral ground with one strong color: it goes with everything.

🧶 Wool, wool and silk, or silk: which should you choose?
The fiber decides how the scarf will feel on the skin. Here is a small map.
| Fiber | For whom | How it feels |
|---|---|---|
| Wool | Those who live real cold, those who walk a lot outdoors | Warm, lively, grips the coat |
| Wool and silk | Those who love softness close to the face | Warm and light, with a delicate sheen |
| Wool and cotton | Those who want a large everyday shawl | Soft, drapes well, never heavy |
| Silk | Those looking for a special piece, for evenings or travel | Light, luminous, precious |
If you are curious about why wool keeps you warm without making you sweat, we tell you all about it in Wool, a timeless fiber.
📏 Which size should you choose?
A generous size is almost always the right choice, because it can be folded and worn in many ways. Our wool scarves measure 70 x 180 cm: they can be knotted at the neck or opened over the shoulders like a stole. The wool and cotton shawls reach 100 x 200 cm and wrap you like a cape. The square scarves, 120 or 130 cm on each side, fold into a triangle. The Eri silk stoles measure 55 x 190 cm.
If you are wondering about the difference between a scarf, a stole and a shawl, you will find it in our little dictionary of everything that wraps us.
💶 Gift ideas for every budget
Around 40 euros: the everyday shawl
The shawls in 50% wool and 50% cotton are the simplest way into the Malini world. Large, 100 x 200 cm, yarn dyed and woven on the loom, they fall softly over the shoulders and become a blanket on the plane. The Sunset, cream with taupe and dusty pink stripes, looks lovely with camel and gray; the Sea, cream with gray and blue stripes, loves denim and blue.
From 60 to 80 euros: handmade color
This is the richest range of the collection. At 60 euros there is the handwoven cotton square scarf, 120 x 120 cm, with red, aqua green, gray and ivory checks: perfect for those who travel. At 70 euros, the wool and silk scarves hand printed with screen printing, like the one with midnight blue flowers on beige, understated and elegant.
At 80 euros you will find the madras scarves in wool and silk, woven on a hand loom, in four color combinations, like the blue and light blue madras checks, and the hand-printed pure wool scarves, like the blue, turquoise and fuchsia paisley on black, composed like the antique shawls of Kashmir.
From 110 to 130 euros: the piece she will remember
Here every scarf is truly one of a kind. The tie-dye scarves in wool and silk, at 110 euros, are born from knots tied by hand and baths of color: each sunburst is different, like the white and fuchsia one that lights up the face. At the same price there is the fine wool scarf block printed by hand with coral pink and sage green bouquets: on wool, block printing is extremely difficult and takes a very skilled artisan. At 130 euros, the hand-dyed silk chiffon square scarves, unique pieces you will find among our foulards.

200 euros: the special gift
The Eri Ahimsa silk stoles are the most precious pieces in the collection. The silk comes from Assam, it is spun and woven by hand, then hand printed with wooden blocks; the moth leaves the cocoon on its own, which is why it is called peace silk. Each stole, 55 x 190 cm, has a design of its own, like the brown one with colorful triangles. Warm in winter and fresh in between seasons, it is the gift for a special person, to keep forever. We tell its story in Ahimsa silk, the peace silk.
