Square scarf in 100% silk chiffon, hand dyed with leheriya tie & dye: orange, pink and blue wave stripes on an apple green ground. Size 130 x 130 cm (51 x 51 in).
Apple green meets orange, pink and small touches of blue: it is the liveliest of the four, with the colors of Rajasthani markets. Leheriya comes from the Hindi word lahar, wave: it is a traditional Rajasthani technique in which the fabric is rolled diagonally, tied at regular intervals and dipped in dye. Where the ties are tight the color cannot reach, and when they are undone the wave stripes appear; for every extra color the fabric is tied and dyed again, with azo free dyes. Light as a veil, it brightens a white T-shirt, a denim shirt or a black dress. We work directly with the artisans in India, with no middlemen, and visit their workshops in person.
