Square scarf in 100% silk chiffon, hand dyed with leheriya tie & dye: fuchsia, red and orange wave stripes on a turquoise ground. Size 130 x 130 cm (51 x 51 in).
A turquoise as bright as the sea, crossed by fuchsia, red and orange wave stripes. Leheriya comes from the Hindi word lahar, wave: it is a traditional Rajasthani technique in which the fabric is rolled diagonally, tied at regular intervals and dipped in dye. Where the ties are tight the color cannot reach, and when they are undone the wave stripes appear; for every extra color the fabric is tied and dyed again, with azo free dyes. Silk chiffon is very light and sheer: knot it at the neck, wear it over the shoulders on a summer dress or tie it to your bag. We work directly with the artisans in India, with no middlemen, and visit their workshops in person.
